Hidden Voices – Hush Now Songwriting Workshop 11am-1pm

March 27 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free
Hush Now

A participatory element of the Hush Now project offers Black Country residents the opportunity to take part in online Creative Writing and Song Writing workshops with Hush Now writer Sara-Jane Arbury and composer Olivia Preye.

Each session is free and will be delivered via Zoom – bookers will be emailed with a joining link in advance of the session. Places for each workshop are limited to 12, and pre-booking is essential.

As the content produced in the workshops will be linked, participants are encouraged to take part in both creative writing and songwriting sessions, but it isn’t mandatory.

The Hush Now song writing workshop will be a relaxed and informal creative session led by composer and facilitator Olivia Preye. After introducing one another and getting to know a little about what peoples musical interests and preferences are, we will begin the session with a vocal warm up. Following this Olivia will use some of her own specialist techniques to help people build improvisation skills. This will take the form of call and response singing over a drone which Olivia will provide with her shruti box. After that we will work with the lyrics given to us from participants from the poem writing workshop with poet Sara-Jane Arbury, playing with different ways of singing them and using bits of melody from our vocal ‘jamming’ as starting points.

There is absolutely no need to have any previous singing or song writing experience to join this workshop. Olivia will support and guide you all the way. Come and experience the satisfying process of writing a song and the magic of collaborative composition. Everyone is warmly welcome!
